Project Health is an existing volunteer organization affiliated with Columbia and other universities around the country that provides programs aimed to bridge the gap between health care services and the community. At Columbia the program unites doctors and social workers, Columbia undergrads, and families from Harlem, Washington Heights, and the Bronx. The idea is to interuprt the well-established correlation between poverty and poor health. Project HEALTH programs are student developed and student run. They provide an excellent opportunity to develop strong relationships with families, children, and other community members.
