Both the After School and Freedom School programs address the academic and societal needs of children who are inherently disadvantaged-academically, socially,
economically, healthy-wise et al-because of their birth/residence in the South Bronx. Both programs provide a much-needed complement to the public school system and a difficult living environment as well as a safe place in which the children are advocated, supported and given some measure of identity. Specifically, the Freedom School addresses their literacy needs and the After School program addresses a wider educational spectrum [e.g., reading, writing, math].
